Art to Inbox Week XXI - "L'Orange" Pastel Painting & More

Hi Friends! Happy Monday.

We’re finally getting into the autumnal spirit here in Aix, and I’m loving the texture of chalk pastels to compliment the fall colors.

L’Orange

Chalk Pastel on Paper
4.1 x 5.8 inches
2021

This pastel painting comes from my current research into body positivity, body diversity inclusion and the feminine nude. In slightly abstracting or enhancing the natural curves of the body in a minimalist line, I search to separate the idea of women’s bodies being equated to only sexuality, and instead to see the feminine form in its inherent, artistic beauty.

PROCESS

This medium appears like watercolor as I have “painted” these high quality, artisanal chalk pastels with water after drawing them onto the paper.

MATERIALS

These chalk pastels are traditionally hand-made in the South of France by Pastels Tenares, an artisanal workshop in Roussillon.

The fine art textured, cotton rag, ragged edge paper is hand made in India and comes through the Royal Academy of Art, London.
