Funded Art Residencies, Where and When to Apply
This is a working list of funded or partially funded art residencies, where and when to apply. Many of these will take multiple times applying, so keep at it, work consistently, and try not to let the application bog you down! Show your best work, share your authentic ideas, and focus on what you need in your practice.
(This list is current as of publication in 2021. Please see individual residency websites for updated information.)
Rijksakadamie Amsterdam
Application Period, When to apply: September 1 - October 1st
Location: Amsterdam, Netherlands
Duration: Funded period of 1-2 years, most artists stay two yearsWhat you get: Studio space, stipend of Euro 1,500 and Euro 15,000 per year (2020) although it seems like you also have to work on earning that money back through fellowships - I assume they help you with this and will not penalize if the fellowships are not won.
Focus and Guidelines: Artists who need time, people and possibilities: they seek artists with two years experience outside of school in the professional world, but who still need practice and development (so, not too established).
From their website: The Rijksakademie offers one- to two-year residencies with the goal of providing space for research, reflection, experiment and exchange. Every year we select approx. 22/23 artists for a residency, and most of the artists stay for two years, so the total community consists of about 45 artists. Half of the group is from the Netherlands, the other half from all around the world. Apart from facilities such as a studio, work budget and stipend, there are extended technical and theory facilities. The Rijksakademie provides time, people and possibilities.
We offer:
- a private studio including wireless internet/heating/electricity
- a stipend €15,000 (in 2021)
- a working budget of €1,500 per year, for the largest part provided by RAEF (Rijksakademie Artists for Artists Endowment Fund)
- access to technical/theoretical /artistic facilities, advice and support
- exchange and collaboration within an international network
- lunch and dinner for subsidised prices in our Cantina (Rijksakademie restaurant)
- support with visa process in the Netherlands and access to modest, but affordable housing in Amsterdam for international artists
