What Inspired This Art?

The last few years, in fact most of my artist career to date, has been heavy on the commission side. This past year especially I worked with many commissions of houses, portraits, photographs, etc. These definitely lend more toward watercolor, which I can make (generally) look tighter and more realistic.

Getting back to chalk pastel is a sign that I’m moving forward toward creating art for deeper Self expression. Chalk is a beautiful, messy, textured medium which speaks directly from my heart.

There is this balanced place of creating I seek which encompasses some commission work, which helps me focus and create in a goal oriented, deadline type of way, and creating with media like chalk in wild, fluid and expressive art from the Soul.

Speaking of commissions…

Wedding Map

Hand-Painted, Personalized Map
on Ragged Edge Fine Art Paper
8 x 10 Inches
$350

My latest commission is this absolutely joyful love story turned map featuring the eastern coast of America. The ragged edged paper has a certain pirate map feel to it, so without question I’ll be using this paper again for map work.

What is a wedding map? It’s a personalized map including all the places and details close the heart of the couple’s love story. I like to include details like where they met, their venue, their pets, their wedding colors - anything that will share their story in this unique art form.

Wedding season for the fall is coming up! Maps are such a special, personalized gift that your friends will cherish for their whole lives. Hit reply to this email to chat with me more about your map commission.

Artist to Follow

My favorite artist to follow this week is Carmen & Co.. Created and Co-Led by NYC born and bred Stephanie Yan, I am constantly amazed and inspired by her flawless design, elegant aesthetic and beautiful floral art and photography. Steph and I worked together at Sotheby’s NYC back in the day, and I remember her sharing her dreams with me about running her own floral design and events company. I’m so overjoyed to see her stunning business thrive after years of hoping, dreaming and dedicated work.
