What's been happening in France

Bonjour tout le monde! Here in the South of France it is officially the heart of Spring and that means bright sun, dry wind and perfectly blue skies. Wherever you are, I hope you’re able to spend some time out in nature, even if it’s just a quick walk around the block.

The French really know how to do greenery on old stone walls.

In France, as in many parts of the world, the lock down is starting to lift. We still don’t have full access to sitting at restaurants or cafés (to the irritation of french people everywhere,) but we are allowed to travel within 100 km, and all shops are open again! It’s not totally normal, but it’s getting there.

Back before the world exploded, I found this splendidly calm path to walk everyday up in the hills north of Aix-en-Provence.

Getting to eat brioche and espresso again is definitely a perk of normal life.

With (a little more) time on my hands, I started exploring a new style of art. If you’ve been keeping up on Instagram you’ll have noticed some of my new “Timescape Series”. There’s been chaos in the world lately, and so I’ve been drawn to this minimalist style as a way to find clarity and peace in images that are beautifully simple.

This was one of the first minimalist mountain scenes I painted, and one of the more colorful ones to date.

My first ever nude line painting.

I had some fun dressing up like my art during the quarantine.

I made this painting en plein air up the hill north of Aix-en-Provence. It was the moon at dusk, but it came out looking like it could be sun or moon. Find out more here.

I’ve been overjoyed to reconnect with old friends who are buying up these new minimalist pieces. This one is going to one of my best friends from our shared time working at Sotheby’s New York.

Leaving parts of the canvas blank was a totally new concept to me a few months ago. Now, it’s my new nessecity for feeling that wonderful space in a painting.

As you can see, it’s a super spot for photoshoots in my one bedroom apartment.

This one is my favorite of my landscape paintings so far. The natural linen canvas showing through feels earthy in the best way. Plus, I’m a sucker for an orange/blue contrast.

These two sun and moon paintings went to my tentmate from Philmont in New Mexico where we were both rangers for a summer.

It wouldn’t be right to have new art without time-lapse videos! If you have even just 30 seconds to spare, please click this video and go subscribe to my YouTube channel - this will help me out immensely!

Finally, since New Orleans always lives in my heart, I’ve been painting some new bar art commissions. This one is also available in prints so email me here if you’re interested!

This is my second original painting of The Delachaise Wine Bar on St. Charles, and traditionally, my first stop when anyone (especially my parents) come to visit.

I love hearing from you all so get in touch! Let me know how you’re doing and what’s been happening in your area - news about America has been a bit skewed on this side of the pond.

Stay well!
